Choose coffee beans

Fresh, whole, to your taste.

5 min read

Freshness matters more than any machine. Beans are at their best within a few weeks of roasting.

What to look for

  • A roast date on the bag, not just a best-by date
  • Whole beans if you can grind at home
  • Light roasts: brighter and fruitier; dark roasts: bolder and more bitter
  • Single origin for distinct flavors, blends for balance
  • Buy an amount you'll use in two to three weeks
