Caffeine varies a lot by drink, size and how it's made.
Good to know
- An 8-ounce cup of brewed coffee often has about 80 to 100 milligrams
- Black tea usually has less than coffee; green tea less again
- Most herbal teas have no caffeine
- Cafe drinks are often much larger than 8 ounces
- Caffeine late in the day can affect sleep
The FDA says 400 milligrams a day is an amount not generally linked to negative effects for healthy adults. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding or have a health condition, ask your doctor. Good Morning Meadow isn't paid by any coffee brand or cafe.
